David and Alexis EW Covid face mask Parking at some of the more popular lookouts and attractions can fill up early in the day, and you may have to do some circling (I did my fair share at both Artists Point and the Middle Geyser Basin).

Its the gateway to the parks west entrance and looks like it has struggled financially in recent years. But things are improving, hence the rejuvenation of our hotel and a few others dotted around. It not difficult to understand how it fell on hard times, with one of the longest recessions in near history, exacerbated by the parks short 6-7 month season.

Park at the Upper Terraces and walk the boardwalks over the hot springs and down to a viewpoint of the terraces and Canary Spring. Then you can also walk down to the Lower Terraces and around all the crazy, steaming formations. The best thing about Yellowstone is without a doubt the abundant, magnificent wildlife that at times feels like it’s no more than an arm’s length away. Take away the big crowds and you have an unparalleled wild animal paradise.

If you're up for a short hike (and if you can find legal parking nearby along the one-way North Rim Drive loop road), make the hike down to the Brink of the Lower Falls. Switchbacks take you roughly 300 feet down into the canyon to the top of Lower Falls.

Many of our neighbors are also helping take up the slack for our diminished work force. The future holds more of the same. The Gallatin River is ready for great catching. The warmth has brought forth terrestrial tidbits and there are even surface flies in the confluence meadows near Fan Creek.
